The heartbreaking incident was discovered early Wednesday morning when a female relative stepped out of her house at around 6:00 a.m. to fetch water.

According to police reports, she noticed the body of her brother-in-law, identified as Kennedy Kabaiku, hanging from an avocado tree within the family compound. A sisal rope was tied around his neck.

Alarmed by the discovery, the woman immediately raised an alarm before proceeding to check inside the deceased's house. What she found deepened the tragedy.

The bodies of Kabaiku's wife, Susan Wambui, 26, and their two-and-a-half-year-old son were lying in pools of blood inside the bedroom.

Police officers who responded to the scene found a blood-stained panga beside the bed. Investigators believe the weapon was used in the attack that claimed the lives of the mother and child.

Preliminary investigations indicate that both victims suffered severe cuts to the neck. Crime scene officers from Kiambu processed and documented the scene as detectives launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Authorities also recovered what is believed to be a suicide note that had reportedly been posted on the deceased's social media status before the incident.

In the message, Kabaiku allegedly blamed his father for introducing him to alcoholism, a struggle he claimed had greatly affected his life.

The shocking deaths have devastated family members, friends, and residents of the area, many of whom described the family as quiet and reserved.

Neighbours gathered near the homestead throughout the morning as police carried out investigations and removed the bodies.

The remains of the deceased were transferred to Mukoe Funeral Home, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted.
