'You left ODM' - MP Kaluma Fires Fresh Warning at Top Linda Mwananchi Leaders Over Links to Opposition

Fresh political tensions have erupted within the opposition after Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma launched a sharp attack against senior leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, accusing them of abandoning the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for personal political ambitions.

In a strongly worded statement shared online, Kaluma appeared to directly target Babu Owino, Edwin Sifuna and James Orengo over their recent criticism of the government and what he described as their growing closeness to opposition activism outside ODM’s leadership structure.

“Babu, Sifuna, Orengo, the message is home! You left ODM thinking these guys would vote for you,” Kaluma wrote in remarks that quickly sparked heated reactions across social media platforms.

The outspoken MP suggested that the three leaders may have overestimated their political influence after distancing themselves from ODM’s traditional power structure and aligning with emerging opposition forces ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kaluma’s comments now expose deepening cracks within ODM at a time when succession politics and coalition negotiations are already reshaping Kenya’s political landscape.

The remarks come just days after Rigathi Gachagua intensified his opposition campaigns through the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), declaring Nairobi as the new political stronghold for his movement ahead of 2027.

Gachagua also announced a cooperation arrangement between DCP and the Wiper Democratic Movement party, signaling growing efforts to build a formidable opposition alliance against President William Ruto.

According to Gachagua, the coalition intends to aggressively compete for key Nairobi seats, including the governor, senator and Woman Representative positions.

The political developments come as Babu Owino continues to openly campaign for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.

The Embakasi East MP recently declared his intention to contest for Nairobi governor before eventually seeking the presidency in 2032, remarks that further elevated his political profile nationally.

At the same time, Edwin Sifuna is expected to defend his Nairobi Senate seat amid growing competition within opposition ranks.

Meanwhile, James Orengo has increasingly positioned himself as one of the strongest critics of the Kenya Kwanza administration, particularly on governance and electoral issues.

Kaluma’s latest attack is now being interpreted by political observers as part of a wider battle for influence within ODM and the broader opposition movement as leaders reposition themselves ahead of the next election cycle.

The exchange has also fueled speculation about possible divisions within ODM over strategy, alliances and the party’s future direction as competition for top political seats intensifies across the country.
