Speaking in Mombasa as he began a five-day development tour of the Coast region, Ruto accused some of his critics of fueling tribal tensions and attempting to divide the country along ethnic lines.
He insisted that Kenya’s unity must remain stronger than political differences and warned against the use of tribal politics for personal or political gain.
“For those of you who are visionless, you will not divide our nation using ethnicity. You will not divide our nation using hate,” the President said.
Ruto further stated that individuals spreading tribal hatred would one day face accountability for their actions, arguing that such conduct threatens national cohesion and peaceful coexistence among communities.

“The hate you are spewing… one day you will answer for the tribalism you are perpetuating in Kenya,” he added.
The President also addressed the death of Rachel Wandeto, whose killing has sparked widespread public outrage and national debate. Referring to the tragic incident, Ruto vowed that justice would be pursued and that those responsible would not escape accountability.
“The life of Rachel Wandeto will not go unanswered,” he said, adding that the incident reflected the dangers of hatred, ethnic profiling, and discrimination directed against fellow citizens.
While investigations into Wandeto’s death continue, the case has intensified discussions about public safety, political rhetoric, and the need to combat ethnic hostility in the country.
Ruto’s remarks came as he officially launched a development tour covering the six counties of Kenya’s Coast region. According to State House, the visit will involve the launch, inspection, and commissioning of various government projects aimed at improving infrastructure, economic opportunities, and public services.
Among the key initiatives expected during the tour is the accelerated issuance of title deeds in the Coast region, a programme intended to address long-standing land ownership challenges affecting many residents.
The President is also scheduled to visit Lamu County, Kwale County, Kilifi County, and Tana River County, where he will inspect and launch projects including fish markets, modern markets, roads, last-mile electricity connectivity programmes, school infrastructure, and affordable housing developments.
The tour comes at a politically sensitive moment, with national conversations increasingly focused on governance, economic challenges, security, and social cohesion. As the President continues his engagements across the Coast region, his comments on hate speech and national unity are likely to remain a major topic of discussion among Kenyans.
