To many Kenyans, Juma’s death was not just another criminal incident. It immediately sparked debate because of his constant public claims about corruption, powerful cartels, and threats to his life.

For months before his death, the wealthy businessman had openly claimed that his life was in danger due to the information he was sharing online.

Friends and close associates had warned him to slow down.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

One vocal politician from Western Kenya reportedly cautioned him against “playing with fire.” But Juma, known for his fearless and confrontational personality, allegedly responded with chilling confidence:

“If I burn, I will make sure others burn with me.”

That statement would later haunt many people after his death.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

Born in 1971 in Mungore village in Bungoma County, Juma grew up in a modest background before rising into the ranks of Kenya’s wealthy businessmen.

Those who knew him during his younger years described him as ambitious, outspoken, and highly confident.

He attended Bungoma High School before joining Kenya Polytechnic and later pursuing Finance studies at the University of Nairobi.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

Despite his eventual riches and influence, Juma’s journey was not entirely straightforward. He built a reputation as a daring businessman who was willing to take risks in sectors where many feared to venture.

In 1995, he married Miriam Wairimu and together they had two children. However, even in death, controversy followed him.

During his burial, several women from different countries, including Tanzania and Uganda, reportedly claimed they had been romantically involved with him, adding another layer to the complex public image he carried throughout his life.

Juma’s rise to wealth began early. By his mid-20s, he was already a millionaire with deep political and business connections. He became closely associated with the late Cyrus Jirongo, who saw enormous potential in the young businessman.

Jirongo is remembered for once warning him about his fiery nature, saying:

“You have the fire, but fire must be directed or it will burn everything.”.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

The relationship between Juma and Jirongo opened doors into influential political and business circles. Juma was also said to have played a role in linking William Ruto to Jirongo during the early years of their political interactions.

As his fortune grew, Juma invested heavily in property and infrastructure. One of his most notable investments was land purchased from Jonathan Moi along Mombasa Road, where he later developed the now well-known Kings Business Park.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

He also ventured into mining through Cortec Mining Kenya. In 2012, his company secured rights connected to niobium mining, a project that was expected to generate billions and position Kenya among key mineral-exporting nations.

However, the mining licence was later revoked by the government, triggering a bitter legal dispute that further increased tensions around him.

But it was not just business that made Jacob Juma famous.

In his later years, he reinvented himself as one of Kenya’s loudest anti-corruption voices. Through his social media account, especially on Twitter under the handle @kabetes, he frequently published explosive allegations touching on major government scandals, procurement deals, land disputes, and financial mismanagement.

He openly discussed issues surrounding the Eurobond saga, controversies involving Mumias Sugar Company, and alleged corruption involving politically connected individuals.

His posts attracted thousands of followers and turned him into both a hero and a target.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

Supporters viewed him as a courageous insider willing to expose the truth regardless of the consequences. Critics, however, accused him of recklessness and using social media to fight political battles.

Despite repeated warnings from family and friends, Juma refused to retreat. He reportedly told close associates that he was fully aware of the risks involved in confronting powerful interests.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

In the weeks leading up to his death, he repeatedly hinted online that his life was in danger.

Then came the night of May 5, 2016.

Gunmen ambushed his vehicle in Nairobi and shot him multiple times, killing him instantly. News of his death spread rapidly across the country, igniting outrage, grief, and endless speculation about who may have wanted him silenced.

Years later, many questions surrounding the killing of Jacob Juma remain unanswered.WATCH VIDEO HERE.

Yet even in death, his story continues to fascinate Kenyans — a tale of wealth, power, controversy, political connections, and a businessman who chose to speak loudly despite knowing the dangers that came with it.
