Panic as School Bus Carrying Students Crashes Along Eldoret–Iten Road During Educational Trip

Fear and confusion gripped parents and residents on Friday morning after a school bus carrying students to Kisumu for an educational tour was involved in an accident along the busy Eldoret–Iten Road.

The accident reportedly occurred at Ainabtich–Marura area after the bus allegedly lost control while travelling toward western Kenya.

The incident immediately attracted attention from motorists and residents living near the scene, many of whom rushed to assist the students and teachers moments after the crash.

Witnesses described emotional scenes as frightened students screamed for help while good Samaritans worked together to evacuate those trapped inside the vehicle.

Although authorities had not yet confirmed the exact number of students injured by the time of publication, the accident triggered widespread panic among parents and guardians after news of the crash spread rapidly through phone calls and social media.

Several parents reportedly rushed to the school and nearby hospitals in search of information about their children’s safety.

Others demanded immediate communication from the school administration regarding the condition of the students involved in the accident.

“I just want to know whether my child is safe. We have been calling since morning without getting clear information,” one distressed parent reportedly said outside the school compound.

Police officers and emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and began rescue operations as traffic built up along the road.

Some injured students were reportedly rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment while authorities worked to determine what caused the accident.

The crash has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of school transport vehicles during long-distance academic trips.

A number of parents questioned whether the bus had been properly inspected before departure, with some accusing school management of negligence.

“Before students travel for such long distances, vehicles should be thoroughly inspected to avoid putting children’s lives at risk,” another concerned parent said.

Residents who witnessed the accident praised motorists and local villagers who stopped to assist the students before emergency services arrived.

Photos and videos circulating online showed the damaged bus by the roadside as crowds gathered around the scene.

Traffic police have since launched investigations into the accident, with officers expected to inspect the condition of the vehicle and establish whether speeding, mechanical failure or poor road conditions contributed to the crash.

Authorities also urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continue.

The incident comes at a time when concerns over student safety have remained high across the country following several recent tragedies involving schools and learners.

Education stakeholders have repeatedly called for stricter transport regulations, especially for buses carrying students over long distances.

Road safety experts have also urged schools to ensure drivers are well-rested, vehicles are roadworthy and emergency procedures are properly communicated before any academic trip begins.

Meanwhile, anxious parents continue waiting for official updates as investigations into the accident progress.
