Speaking during a radio interview, Sifuna expressed confidence that opposition parties would eventually rally behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.
The senator argued that recent attacks directed at Kenyatta by government allies demonstrate the former president’s continued political influence, particularly within the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.
Sifuna further urged Mt Kenya residents to remain united and work with other regions if they hope to influence the country's political direction in 2027.
His remarks come at a time when political observers continue to debate who currently holds greater influence in Mt Kenya politics between Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
While Gachagua has been actively mobilizing support through his political networks, Kenyatta has maintained a quieter but still influential presence within the region.
The senator also dismissed proposals by some government-allied politicians seeking to review benefits enjoyed by former presidents, arguing that such privileges are protected under existing legal and constitutional provisions.
Political analysts believe the battle for Mt Kenya support could become one of the most decisive factors in determining the outcome of the 2027 presidential contest.
The region remains one of the country's largest voting blocs, making it a critical target for both the government and opposition camps.
