Kennedy Kaunda Sets Record Straight On Receiving Brown Envelope To Call Off Matatu Strike

Transport sector leader Kennedy Kaunda has strongly denied allegations that he received a “brown envelope” to influence negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing dispute over fuel prices and the matatu operators’ strike.

Speaking amid growing speculation, Kaunda dismissed the claims as false and insisted that he has neither received nor accepted any form of bribe during discussions involving transport stakeholders and government representatives.

His remarks come at a time when tensions remain high within the public transport sector, with operators protesting the impact of rising fuel costs on their businesses.

According to Kaunda, the accusations are baseless and risk diverting attention from the real issues affecting matatu operators and commuters across the country.

He emphasized that his involvement in the talks is guided by transparency and the need to find practical solutions rather than personal gain.

“I have not received any envelope, and I am not ready to receive one,” he reportedly stated while addressing the allegations.

The claims emerged during ongoing efforts to resolve the standoff between transport operators and government officials.

As one of the prominent voices in the discussions, Kaunda said it was important to maintain integrity throughout the negotiation process and focus on achieving outcomes that benefit both operators and the public.

The dispute over fuel prices has significantly affected the transport industry, with some operators reducing services or threatening industrial action due to rising operating costs.

The situation has disrupted travel for many commuters and increased pressure on authorities to find a lasting solution.

Observers note that the fuel price debate has become one of the most pressing issues facing the transport sector, with stakeholders calling for measures to reduce costs and protect livelihoods.

Against this backdrop, allegations of corruption have added another layer of controversy to an already sensitive issue.

Kaunda’s denial has generated mixed reactions on social media. Some Kenyans have praised his public response and insistence on transparency, arguing that negotiations should be conducted openly and free from undue influence.

Others have called for greater disclosure from all parties involved to reassure the public that the talks are being handled fairly.

As discussions continue, industry players and commuters alike are hoping for a breakthrough that will restore stability to the transport sector and ease the burden caused by high fuel prices.

For now, Kaunda maintains that his focus remains on securing a fair resolution to the dispute and ensuring that the interests of both transport operators and ordinary citizens are protected.

With negotiations still underway, many Kenyans will be watching closely to see whether a compromise can be reached in the coming days.
