A village in Kisii County has been thrown into mourning after a young man tragically lost his life while attempting to climb and fix an electric pole.

The man, identified by locals as Ishmael, believed the lines were safe because electricity had gone off in the area earlier that day.

Without professional training or protective gear, he went up the pole with the intention of clearing tree branches that had grown too close to the power lines.

According to a neighbour, Ishmael had already started cutting some of the branches when power unexpectedly returned.
