Omondi made the announcement during an interview with a local radio station in Kisumu on Monday, where he outlined his vision for the country and criticised the current administration’s performance.
Speaking during the interview, Omondi expressed dissatisfaction with the Kenya Kwanza government, accusing it of failing to fully deliver on key campaign promises made during the 2022 elections.
He cited the rising cost of living, challenges within the education sector, and concerns about access to healthcare as some of the pressing issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.
According to him, many citizens continue to struggle economically despite expectations of reforms following the last election.
“The country needs a new direction driven by fresh leadership and practical solutions,” Omondi said, adding that young leaders must step forward to shape Kenya’s future.
His remarks come at a time when public debate around economic policies and governance remains a dominant topic across political and social platforms.
Omondi also highlighted his academic background, stating that he holds master’s degrees in political science along with two diploma certificates.
He argued that his educational qualifications, combined with what he described as grassroots experience, place him in a strong position to offer alternative leadership.
However, political analysts note that while academic credentials can strengthen a candidate’s profile, building national political networks and gaining widespread voter support will be key factors in determining the viability of any presidential bid.
The announcement comes barely months after renewed discussions about the 2027 election cycle began gaining momentum, with several individuals and political figures already expressing interest in seeking the country’s top seat.
During the interview, Omondi outlined several policy priorities should he be elected president. Among them is what he described as a plan to “revive” the education system, which he claims is facing structural and funding challenges.
He also pledged to introduce measures aimed at lowering the cost of basic commodities and strengthening healthcare services to make them more accessible to citizens across the country.
He called on Kenyans, particularly young voters, to support his bid, arguing that leadership must evolve to reflect the aspirations of a new generation.
Nonetheless, some political commentators caution that Kenya’s political landscape remains highly competitive and largely shaped by established alliances, meaning new entrants may face significant challenges in gaining nationwide traction.
