US Warns Uganda After General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Crosses 'Red Line', Calls for Rethink Of Military Ties

The United States has issued a stern warning to Uganda following controversial actions and statements by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the country’s Chief of Defence Forces, with senior lawmakers calling for a reassessment of Washington’s relationship with Kampala.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch said the U.S. “will not tolerate this level of instability and recklessness when American personnel, U.S. interests, and innocent lives in the region are at stake,” declaring that Muhoozi has crossed a red line.

His remarks follow a series of inflammatory tweets by the Ugandan military chief that have sparked diplomatic concern in Washington and across the region.

Risch criticized what he described as repeated provocations followed by “empty apologies,” arguing that such behavior undermines regional stability and risks dragging Uganda’s partners into unnecessary crises.
