According to the opposition party, the incident involved a military helicopter that reportedly landed inside Bobi Wine’s family compound under unclear circumstances.
NUP alleged that heavily armed security operatives accompanied the aircraft during the operation.
The party claimed that shortly after landing, the officers deliberately disabled electricity at the residence.
They also allegedly destroyed the electric fence surrounding the compound, plunging the home into darkness and limiting communication with the outside world.
NUP further stated that Bobi Wine was forcefully taken away by the officers and flown to an undisclosed location.
The party said neither his family nor his legal team was informed of where he was being taken, sparking fears of unlawful detention.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, NUP accused state security operatives of using intimidation tactics against the opposition.
The party also claimed that Bobi Wine’s private security guards were violently assaulted despite posing no threat.
Supporters and family members were reportedly left in shock as the helicopter departed, with no official communication issued by authorities regarding Bobi Wine’s whereabouts.
The party described the situation as deeply troubling and warned of escalating political repression.
The alleged incident comes amid heightened political tensions as vote counting continues in Uganda’s 2026 elections.
Early results have shown President Yoweri Museveni taking a strong lead, a development that opposition figures have publicly questioned.
Bobi Wine has previously accused authorities of election manipulation and harassment of opposition.
