In a sharp response posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader directly addressed President Ruto, urging him to cease what he described as orchestrated attacks on his rallies and gatherings.
“Mr William Ruto, if you have a problem with and you feel so pained by the young people defending their leaders, stop sending your goons to attack them and their meetings and invade places of worship. Empower those goons to engage in meaningful and legal economic activities instead of sending them to harm innocent Kenyans, especially women and children. That way, there will be no need for any protection.”
This fiery rebuttal came shortly after President Ruto criticized Gachagua during a public address in Samburu County on the same day. Ruto had mocked Gachagua's earlier calls for young people to provide protection during his public events, describing such appeals as reckless.
The President questioned why a former senior official would urge youths to arm themselves with crude weapons like rungu (clubs) and panga (machetes) to act as personal guards, instead of focusing on nation-building and job creation.
Ruto's remarks referenced Gachagua's defense of his safety concerns, which stem from the withdrawal of his state security detail following his impeachment in October 2024.
In a recent interview on January 12, 2026, Gachagua had declared that his life was in danger due to this deliberate exposure, despite his ongoing influence in national politics.
