Sifuna, Other ODM Rebels Reportedly Cornered By Ruto and Oburu

President William Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Odinga are reportedly nearing a significant political agreement. This strategic alliance aims to reshape Kenya’s landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, catching many veteran politicians off guard.

Insiders suggest that this pact could be officially sealed as early as April. The deal signifies a major shift in traditional loyalties, as the ruling UDA party seeks a formal working relationship with the opposition.

The looming arrangement has effectively sidelined Edwin Sifuna and several ODM rebels. By consolidating power through Oburu, Ruto is navigating around internal party friction and silencing those who previously opposed cooperation with his current administration.

Oburu Odinga was recently mandated to initiate these high-level coalition talks. His role is pivotal, acting as a bridge between the Kenyatta-era remnants and the current government to ensure a smooth transition of political interests.

Notably, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna skipped a critical meeting that authorized these negotiations. His absence highlights deep-seated divisions within the Orange party regarding the merits of joining forces with their long-term rivals in UDA.

The UDA National Executive Council has already tasked the President with formalizing this partnership. They believe a united front will stabilize the country, though critics argue it is merely a tactic to weaken the opposition's oversight.

This deal places "rebel" members in a difficult position as the party hierarchy shifts. Those who once stood against the government now find themselves isolated, as the party's core leadership moves toward a broad-based political government.

The collaboration marks a historic turning point for Nyanza and Rift Valley politics. By aligning with Oburu, Ruto aims to penetrate traditional opposition strongholds, potentially securing his path to a second term with much less resistance.

As April approaches, Kenyans are watching closely to see the final terms. This evolving political marriage between Ruto and the Odingas promises to redefine the power dynamics and influence the 2027 electoral map significantly.
