Political Turnaround Looms as Leaders Who Abandoned President Ruto Plot Comeback

President William Ruto is set to benefit from a political realignment as leaders who previously abandoned his administration prepare to make a comeback, according to Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka.

Speaking during a public engagement in Teso South, Lusaka said the political tide is steadily shifting in favour of the Head of State as realities on the ground begin to reshape loyalties.

Lusaka, who doubles as the Western Kenya coordinator for Ruto’s re election strategy, argued that many politicians who distanced themselves from the President did so out of impatience and political convenience.

He noted that with time, several leaders are now reassessing their positions after recognising that the government remains firmly in control and focused on delivering its agenda.

According to the governor, President Ruto’s resilience in the face of early political pressure has impressed both supporters and critics.

He pointed to ongoing economic interventions, development projects, and efforts to stabilise the cost of living as factors slowly restoring confidence in the administration.

Lusaka insisted that leaders who initially jumped ship are beginning to realise that aligning with the national government is essential for meaningful development at the grassroots.

He also downplayed the strength of the opposition, stating that it lacks a clear vision capable of challenging the current administration.

Lusaka claimed that some opposition figures are recycling old narratives despite having had opportunities to lead in the past, leaving voters unconvinced.

As the 2027 General Election approaches, Lusaka believes political pragmatism will drive more defections back to President Ruto’s side.

He predicted that by the end of the year, the President’s camp would be significantly strengthened as former critics quietly return, prioritising development and political survival over protest politics.
