Makueni Boys Defies Odds to Score C+ After Joining Form 1 With Just 195 Marks

Peter Katungwa Makueni boy has inspired many after defying the odds to score a C+ in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, despite joining Form One with just 195 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

Kimanthi Joshua Mutuku joined ABC Muua Mixed Secondary School in Mukaa, Makueni County, carrying the heavy burden of being labelled the weakest student in his class.

With his low KCPE score, many doubted his academic future and questioned whether he would complete secondary school, let alone qualify for university.

However, his journey took a different turn thanks to resilience, determination, and the belief of a compassionate mentor.

Peter Katungwa, a board member at the school, noticed Joshua’s commitment and steady improvement and chose to support and encourage him throughout his four years in secondary school.

At the start of Joshua’s Form One journey, Katungwa made a bold promise that would later become a powerful source of motivation.

He vowed that if the boy worked hard and eventually qualified for university, he would reward him with a flight to Mombasa.

At the time, the promise seemed far-fetched, especially considering Joshua’s academic background, but it planted a seed of hope.

Over the years, Joshua remained focused, pushing past discouragement and low expectations.

His hard work paid off when the 2025 KCSE results were released, and he emerged with a C+, a grade that qualifies him for university admission.

The result not only marked a personal victory but also silenced those who had written him off early.

True to his word, Katungwa honoured the promise by booking Joshua his first-ever flight to Mombasa, scheduled for January 19.

He expressed pride in the young man’s transformation, describing the achievement as a testimony of faith, discipline, and perseverance.
