"If Speaking the Truth Will Haunt Me, then Let it Be" Rigathi Gachagua Vows to Tour Garissa and Wajir Despite Criticism

The political atmosphere in Kenya shifted dramatically on Friday, January 23, when reports emerged that the Donald Trump administration had taken note of Rigathi Gachagua’s public request for a "Venezuela-style" intervention.

Gachagua’s appeal, based on allegations that the 2022 Kenya Kwanza campaign was funded through "opaque international channels," has put President William Ruto on the defensive.

While State House has dismissed Gachagua as a "bitter, impeached individual," the mere mention of US scrutiny into campaign finances has sent ripples through the ruling UDA party.

Domestically, Gachagua is doubling down on his "Truth Marathon." After the Northern Kenya Media Practitioners (NKMP) cancelled a scheduled roundtable interview under alleged "state and regional pressure," Gachagua released a viral video declaring "Siogopi" (I am not afraid).

He accused the region’s governors—whom he calls "Nairobi-based landlords"—of bribing journalists to prevent him from exposing the Ksh 1 Trillion in devolution funds he claims have been diverted into private luxury apartments in Nairobi’s Parklands and Eastleigh.

To bypass the media blackout, Gachagua has announced a daring "Air-to-Ground" tour of Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera starting next week.

He plans to hold "Town Hall" meetings in open fields, communicating directly with the residents in what he calls a "liberation mission."

By positioning himself as the only leader brave enough to challenge the "Northern Elite," Gachagua is successfully tapping into the frustrations of youth who have seen little development despite billions in Equalisation Fund allocations.

The "dark secret" that Gachagua is leveraging is the 2022 Campaign Finance Audit. By inviting the US to look into "Minnesota-linked funds," Gachagua is hitting at the heart of the Ruto administration’s legitimacy.

His frequent comparisons of his own "persecution" to that of Donald Trump are designed to win over the Christian conservative vote and the Gen Z "Resistance" wing.

This "lethal" combination of local populist grievances and international pressure is what is truly giving the current regime "sleepless nights."

As the 2027 polls load, Gachagua’s strategy is clear: if he cannot have the media, he will have the "ground." If he cannot have the state, he will seek the "world."

His alliance with Kalonzo Musyoka and his "Truth Tours" are effectively turning the "Wantam" (One Term) movement into a formidable national wave. Whether Ruto can neutralize this through his "Broad-based Government" or by mending fences with the US remains the biggest political question of 2026.
