Good News for M-pesa Users as Safaricom Increases for Fuliza Limits for Thousands of Kenyans

Thousands of Safaricom users have noticed unexpected changes to their Fuliza overdraft limits, with many receiving text messages announcing higher borrowing amounts. The new limits allow customers to complete M-Pesa transactions even when their account balance is not enough to cover the cost.

In the messages sent out, Safaricom informs users of their updated Fuliza limits, though the amounts differ from one customer to another. Some people reported small increases, such as from KSh 100 to KSh 600, while others said their limits jumped as high as KSh 10,000. A very common change shared online was an increase from KSh 500 to KSh 800.

Social media, especially X, quickly filled with posts from users comparing their new limits. Many confirmed receiving boosts, while others said nothing had changed for them. This has led to the conclusion that the increase is not being applied to everyone at the same time.

So far, Safaricom has not released a public explanation about how customers are being selected for the higher limits or whether this is part of a larger plan. Fuliza, which is run in partnership with KCB and NCBA, has become a key source of short-term credit for millions of Kenyans.

Experts believe the changes may be based on how often customers use M-Pesa, how reliably they repay Fuliza loans, and their overall transaction patterns. By adjusting limits, Safaricom may be aiming to encourage more use of the service and earn more in fees.

Customers are advised to check their current Fuliza limits through the M-Pesa menu or by reading any official SMS they receive.
