Family Demands Justice After Airport Worker Dies in Electrocution Tragedy at Moi Airport in Mombasa

A family in Mombasa is seeking answers and accountability following the sudden death of a man who was electrocuted while working at Moi International Airport.

The family of Jimmy Kitavi, a father of three, is demanding justice after he died from an electric shock while on duty at Moi International Airport (MIA) on January 2, 2026. Kitavi was an employee of Eurocraft Company, a firm operating within the airport.

According to reports, the incident happened at around 4:00 pm as Kitavi carried out his normal work duties. A postmortem examination later confirmed that the cause of death was electrocution, raising serious concerns about workplace safety at the busy international airport.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Kitavi’s brother, Paul Kitavi, said they have been struggling to understand how the incident occurred.

“Since that day, we have been moving up and down trying to find out what really happened at his workplace. The postmortem results confirmed he was electrocuted while on duty,” he said.

The family fears that despite the clear medical findings, the case could be quietly ignored if no action is taken.

Kitavi’s widow, Mercy Chepkonga, made an emotional plea for justice, saying her husband was the sole provider for the family.

“I have no one else to depend on. My husband was the breadwinner. I don’t have a job, and we had many plans for our family,” she said.

Her words highlight the deep financial and emotional impact the tragedy has had on the young family.

The family has also raised concerns about how they were informed of Kitavi’s death. His uncle, Kigosi Nzuki, questioned why relatives living far away were contacted instead of the deceased’s wife, who was in Mombasa at the time.

“Why did they call family members upcountry when his wife was nearby and her contact details were available?” he asked.

Eurocraft Company has stated that investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are still ongoing. The company says it will take appropriate action once the probe is concluded.

As investigations continue, the family hopes the truth will come out and that those responsible will be held accountable, ensuring justice for Jimmy Kitavi and improved safety for workers in similar environments.
