Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has cautioned Nairobi Senator and ODM party secretary general Edwin Sifuna over his rising profile following a public interaction with Ida Odinga on Wednesday in Karen.
The encounter occurred during a memorial event celebrating the posthumous birthday of Raila Odinga, who passed away in October 2025.
While Ida shared a warm hug with Sifuna, she reportedly only greeted other leaders present.
Cherargei described Sifuna’s political ascent as premature, warning that the Nairobi lawmaker is being fattened for a big slaughter politically in fulness of time.
"Sifuna is being fattened for a big slaughter politically in fulness of time. He is a newbie in politics. He will never know what happened when he is politically minced meat," the Nandi senator said.
Sifuna’s camaraderie with Ida comes amid rising tensions within ODM, where internal conflicts have become visible.
Some party members have even called for his eviction, citing his criticism of the Broad-Based Government.
Cherargei also pointed to the role of the media and a fragmented opposition in magnifying Sifuna’s profile.
“The media and united opposition has hyped him further that when he falls it shall thunderous loudly," he added.
Sifuna’s close ties with the Odinga family may strengthen his influence, but also exposes him to intra-party rivalries and scrutiny.
