Blow For Statehouse Official Hours After He Resigned to Face Ruto in 2027 Polls, as MP Dismisses Bid

Usually our politics is never short of drama, but the latest developments surrounding Eliud Owalo have certainly cranked up the heat.

Just hours after Owalo took a definitive leap by resigning from his high-ranking position at State House to pursue the presidency in 2027, he has hit a significant roadblock in the form of stinging criticism from an ODM allied legislator.

Eliud Owalo who served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Delivery and Government Efficiency, officially stepped down yesterday night.

In a public statement that quickly made rounds on social media, Owalo noted that his position was no longer tenable following his decision to challenge his boss, President William Ruto, in the upcoming next year General Election.

This move marks a major shift, as Owalo has been a key strategist within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

However, the honeymoon period for his new campaign has lasted only a few hours.

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has been quick to pour cold water on Owalo’s ambitions.

In a blunt assessment, she has dismissed the presidential bid as "hot air" and a "fool's errand."

People with high blood sugar levels should know this.

According to Odhiambo, Owalo’s path to the top is virtually non-existent if he chooses to run outside the dominant UDA or ODM structures.

She argues that without a major party machine, a presidential run is more of a wild goose chase.

However, there is speculation that the presidential talk might just be a launching pad for a local seat, such as the Siaya Gubernatorial position or the Rarieda MP seat.

The suggestion is that Owalo might end up leading a fringe party that struggles to gain traction against established political giants.

This early friction sets a competitive tone for the 2027 cycle.

While Owalo is clearly banking on his record of government efficiency to win over the electorate, the immediate rejection from influential MPs like Odhiambo highlights the uphill battle he faces in consolidating support.
