Mass demonstrations have started in Mwanza, where young people and other citizens have come out to protest against the leadership of President Samia Suluhu.
The protests began earlier in the week, after several online groups called for Tanzanians to challenge the results of the recent election and demand accountability.
A video shared widely on social media showed one protester speaking loudly in front of a crowd.
The protester addressed both the people of Tanzania and the police officers who were standing near the demonstrators.
The speaker said that many people were still hurt by what happened on the day President Samia Suluhu was declared the winner of the election.
According to the official election figures, Samia Suluhu won with about 98% of the vote.
However, some citizens say they do not believe the process was fair and claim that mistakes and misuse of power took place.
In the speech, the protester blamed the government for deaths that happened during election-related demonstrations.
The protester said that the loss of innocent lives shows that freedom of expression is being blocked.
The protester told police officers that people were not on the streets to fight or cause trouble.
Instead, they said the demonstrators only want a fair government that listens to its citizens.
The speaker also said that those who died during election protests should be remembered with honor.
From the video, the crowd looked very energetic. Many people held placards and banners with messages demanding justice and a change in leadership.
Most of those who turned up to protest were young people, especially those identifying as Gen Z. They shouted slogans calling for free democracy, reforms, and respect for human rights.
