Over 211,000 KJSEA Placement Review Applications Approved as Reapplication Window Opens January 6

The Ministry of Education has approved more than 211,000 applications for the review of Grade 10 senior school placement under the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA), following widespread requests from learners dissatisfied with their initial placement.

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba confirmed that 211,636 applications had been approved out of 355,457 review requests submitted through the placement portal.

This means that 88 per cent of learners have now been placed in schools aligned with either their original or revised choices.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, applications that were unsuccessful were mainly affected by two key challenges: the unavailability of preferred subject combinations and limited capacity in the selected schools.

“Some applications could not be approved due to the absence of the requested subject combinations or lack of available space in the schools chosen. Affected learners have been advised accordingly,” Migos stated.

The ministry noted that national schools attracted overwhelming demand, far exceeding their intake capacity.

Prestigious institutions such as Alliance High School, Kenya High School, and Mang’u High School reportedly received up to 20,000 applications each, despite having an average intake of about 500 students per school.

Despite the high competition, the Education CS assured learners and parents that another opportunity for placement review would be available.

Learners seeking further reconsideration will be able to submit new applications between January 6 and January 9, 2026, via the official placement portal.

The initial Grade 10 placement exercise was conducted between December 14 and December 19, 2025, with results released at the close of the process.

Learners who were unhappy with their placements were allowed to apply for reviews starting December 23, with processing completed on December 29.

Each learner was permitted to submit up to four review requests, and the outcomes of the applications are now accessible online.

On pathway allocation, the ministry revealed that 51 per cent of learners were placed in the STEM pathway, 38 per cent in Social Sciences, while 11 per cent were assigned to the Arts and Sports Science pathway.

The ministry further announced that joining instructions for successfully placed learners are now available for download on the placement portal, effective December 30, 2025.

Parents and learners have been encouraged to check the portal promptly and prepare for the upcoming school term as the placement process nears completion.
