Gladys Wanga Warned Against Helicopter Travel Amid Assassination Threats Over 2027 DP Race

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has been cautioned to exercise utmost vigilance amid growing political tension surrounding the 2027 Deputy President succession race.

The warning, issued by Councillor Njohi, comes as reports suggest heightened rivalry and backroom maneuvering among key political figures eyeing the position.

Njohi specifically warned Wanga against flying in helicopters, alleging that her safety could be compromised due to the volatile nature of political competition within President William Ruto’s circle.

“Gladys Wanga is yet to understand who she is dealing with. She believes and lives the lie that she shall be picked as Kasongo’s deputy,” Njohi remarked, using the Kikuyu name often associated with President Ruto in political discussions.

The caution comes at a time when speculation is rife about who might succeed the current Deputy President after 2027.

Njohi recalled that, during the period leading up to the attempted impeachment of then-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, two governors from Molima were separately approached by President Ruto.

He allegedly promised each of them the DP slot in exchange for political support and financial mobilization to secure Gachagua’s ouster.

One of the governors reportedly went as far as purchasing goats and seeking blessings from opposition leader Raila Odinga in anticipation of being appointed to the role.

A homecoming committee was formed, and the governor even ordered a suit from Italy ahead of what was expected to be a swearing-in ceremony that never materialized.

Njohi further cautioned that Wanga is not the only politician being considered for the deputy position, naming other potential contenders such as John Mbadi, Opiyo Wandayi, Peter Kaluma, Samuel Atandi, Musalia Mudavadi, and Sirisia MP John Waluke.

He warned that the contest for the DP seat has become a dangerous political game, urging Wanga to tread carefully as the 2027 race intensifies.
