Wiper Makes U-turn After Reports Kalonzo Has Accepted To be Sifuna's DP in 2027,Issues Clarification

The Wiper Democratic Movement has stepped forward to clear the air regarding swirling rumors about its 2027 presidential lineup.

Following widespread speculation that party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has agreed to play second fiddle as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s deputy, the party has issued an official statement to set the record straight.

Speaking through party spokesman Ndegwa Njiru, the opposition outfit has firmly refuted the claims, dismissing them as a complete misinterpretation of Kalonzo’s recent remarks.

Njiru has clarified that the Wiper leader has merely expressed a general commitment to coalition unity rather than stepping down from his own presidential ambitions.

"Our party leader, just like the other principals, merely acknowledged that he will support whoever is nominated under the Alternative United Government as its presidential flag bearer.

Therefore, it is misleading to interpret his remarks as an indication that he has agreed to deputize anyone," Njiru has stated.

The clarification has come shortly after commentary suggested Kalonzo’s readiness to support Sifuna meant he has backed away from the top seat.

Party insiders have maintained that Kalonzo’s open-minded stance has been framed to demonstrate teamwork within the broader opposition movement, not a surrender of his candidacy.

By issuing this statement, Wiper has reinforced its position in the ongoing negotiations within the Alternative United Government framework.

The party has reassured its supporters that Kalonzo remains fully in the race for the ticket, emphasizing that formal nominations have not yet taken place.

As the political landscape has continued to shift ahead of the 2027 general election, this recent clarification has highlighted the delicate balancing act required to keep coalition alliances intact while managing individual party expectations.
