Taking to his X account, Kipkorir said the 2027 election would give Kenyans a binary choice between President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
He argued that other political parties would have to work with either UDA or DCP if they wanted to remain politically relevant. Those that choose to stay outside the two camps, he said, risk being reduced to small local parties.
Kipkorir also predicted that UDA would eventually push ODM and Jubilee out of the 2027 political contest, leaving UDA and DCP as the two dominant parties.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, August 12, while discussing the state of Kenya’s political parties ahead of the next General Election.
The flamboyant city lawyer said ODM had come close to becoming a strong national party under its late leader Raila Odinga. He described Raila’s efforts to build ODM into a lasting party with a socialist ideology as unusual in Kenyan politics.
However, he argued that ODM has since lost much of its national appeal and has become more focused on one region.
