Peter Mbae Declares “Official Death of ODM” After ORPP Recognises Sifuna’s Removal

Political temperatures rose on Thursday after former State House official Peter Mbae reacted strongly to the decision by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties to formally recognise the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement.

Sharing the official communication from the Registrar of Political Parties on social media, Mbae described the development as a defining moment in the history of the opposition party, claiming it marked what he termed as the official death of ODM.

"This is the official death of ODM party. Members are free to run from the shell," Mbae wrote in a statement that quickly sparked debate among supporters and critics alike.

The remarks came shortly after the Registrar of Political Parties confirmed that ODM's National Executive Committee had acted within the law and the party constitution in removing Sifuna from office.

The letter, dated July 9, 2026, stated that the office had reviewed the documents submitted by the party and found the process to be consistent with the Political Parties Act and ODM's internal rules.

According to the Registrar, the office had already updated its records to reflect the leadership change effectively making Sifuna's removal official unless overturned through legal proceedings.

Sifuna has been one of ODM's most visible and vocal leaders in recent years, often serving as the party's chief communicator on major political issues.

His removal therefore represents one of the biggest leadership changes within ODM in recent times and is expected to have significant political implications.
