RAILA ODINGA died while walking, not in bed - MAURICE OGETA opens up on BABA’s last moments

Maurice Ogeta, the long‑serving bodyguard of late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has offered a rare and emotional account of Baba’s final moments, challenging the widely held belief that Odinga died peacefully in a hospital bed.

Speaking during Gor Mahia football club’s visit to the Odinga family home on Monday, June 1st, Ogeta revealed that the veteran politician took his last breath while engaged in his usual morning exercise routine in India.

The club leadership had arrived to present their historic Kenya Premier League title to the family, honoring Odinga’s decades‑long role as Gor Mahia’s devoted patron.

According to Ogeta, Odinga had set a modest goal that morning of five laps of a 50‑metre walking circuit at the villa where he was receiving treatment.

The first round was completed without incident, but midway through the second, Odinga suddenly stopped.

“The patron died walking. He did not die on bed. It was so unfortunate, I was just one meter away from him as we normally do our morning exercises.”

“And just as he was doing his normal exercise, he just stopped,” Ogeta recalled.

He clarified there was no dramatic fall or collapse. Odinga simply halted, said “aai” and fell silent.

The revelation has stirred fresh emotions among supporters, underscoring Odinga’s enduring bond with Gor Mahia.
