In a pointed social media statement, Muturi announced that Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi will read the budget estimates for the coming financial year on June 11, 2026, at 3 p.m.

He described the occasion as historic, noting it will be the first time in independent Kenya that a national budget is presented without the sitting president in attendance.

Muturi did not hold back in explaining the president's decision to stay away. "The reason he has chosen to be absent is because he knows what he is proposing in the Finance Bill is so painful," he stated.

The remarks have been interpreted by many as Muturi throwing President Ruto under the bus, especially amid growing public anxiety over the contents of the Finance Bill.
