The young man, who preferred to remain anonymous, claimed that his uncle had already identified a woman he was expected to marry — despite the fact that he had never met her before.

According to the man, the woman in question is a single mother of two children, and his relatives appear convinced that the arrangement would be suitable for him. However, he says he feels confused, overwhelmed, and pressured by the expectations placed upon him.

Speaking to friends about the matter, the man admitted that while he respects family guidance, he feels uncomfortable entering a serious commitment with someone he has never had the opportunity to know personally.

“My uncle already made up his mind. He says she is hardworking and respectful, but I’ve never even met her,” he lamented. “Marriage is a lifetime decision. I feel like I should at least know the person first.”

The story has ignited conversations among Nairobi residents and social media users, with many debating the role family should play in modern relationships. While some argued that elders often have wisdom and experience in identifying suitable partners, others insisted that marriage should remain a personal decision based on compatibility, trust, and mutual understanding.

Several people sympathized with the man, noting that the pressure to settle down can sometimes create emotional distress. In many communities, unmarried adults often face repeated questions from relatives regarding when they intend to marry, especially when they reach a certain age.

Relationship experts frequently emphasize that successful marriages are often built on communication, emotional connection, and shared values. Entering a marriage without adequate time to understand one another can sometimes create challenges later in life.
