Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has launched a scathing response to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following claims linking him to an alleged plot to cause chaos in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the planned Gen Z anniversary protests.
In a lengthy Facebook post on Wednesday night, June 24, Wamumbi dismissed Gachagua's allegations as false, politically motivated and designed to incite residents against him.
The legislator questioned why Gachagua had chosen to raise claims relating to an incident at Witima ACK Church in Othaya more than five months after it occurred.
"Why now?" Wamumbi posed, arguing that the former Deputy President had never previously associated him with the January incident.
According to the MP, Gachagua was attempting to "emotionally charge people" against him after what he described as the failure of a plan to mobilise unrest in Karatina and other towns.
Wamumbi claimed that while Gachagua publicly urged young people not to participate in violent demonstrations, efforts to mobilise chaos allegedly continued behind the scenes.
The UDA MP alleged that the ultimate objective was to disrupt businesses, intimidate residents and target his home.
The Mathira lawmaker said residents had refused to be drawn into political battles, insisting that the people of the constituency would not be used as tools in personal rivalries.
