Speaking during a public engagement forum, Ichung’wah addressed rising concerns over the bill’s impact on the cost of living and taxation, emphasizing that it was not the first time such alarmist reactions had occurred.
“We passed that same Finance Bill you rejected last December,” he said.
“People were told we would start taxing land, chickens, and pigs—but none of that happened. Those were lies meant to stir fear.”
The Majority Leader argued that while some sections of the bill may be unpopular or misunderstood, it is irresponsible to reject the entire legislation based on a few contested provisions.“You cannot throw out the whole bill because of a few clauses,” Ichung’wah noted.
“If there are parts you don’t like, those are the parts we should talk about and fix. That’s how democracy works.”
