Gachagua Says Man Serving 20-Year Jail Term For Murder Was Planted By State House To Destroy Him

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive allegations against powerful figures within government, claiming that a prisoner serving a lengthy jail sentence was deliberately recruited and coached to falsely link himself to the Gachagua family in an attempt to damage his political reputation.

Speaking during an engagement with Kenyans living in the United Kingdom on Friday, May 22, Gachagua dismissed reports suggesting that an inmate identified as Jackson Kihara Gachucha was his nephew.

According to the former deputy president, the allegations were part of a calculated political scheme designed to undermine him after efforts to implicate him in corruption allegedly failed.

The controversy has generated widespread discussion in political circles, especially because the claims touch on questions of family inheritance, criminal convictions, and the increasingly bitter rivalry between Gachagua and allies of President William Ruto.

Addressing supporters during the meeting, Gachagua said he had never met the prisoner and insisted there was no family relationship whatsoever between them.

He alleged that certain state operatives deliberately sought out the inmate while he was serving his sentence and persuaded him to claim that he was the son of the late Nderitu Gachagua.

According to Gachagua, the intention was to create a damaging public narrative capable of casting doubt on his integrity and that of his family.

“They went to prison looking for someone who could help them manufacture a scandal. They picked a convicted criminal and instructed him to claim he was my late brother’s son. We have never known him, we have never seen him, and he was never recognized as part of our family,” Gachagua reportedly told the gathering.

The former deputy president further argued that the allegations collapse under scrutiny because the timeline presented by his critics does not match established facts.

He noted that claims suggesting the inmate was imprisoned to prevent him from exposing family secrets are inconsistent with historical events surrounding his late brother.

Gachagua pointed out that the prisoner was jailed several years before Nderitu Gachagua’s death.

According to him, it would therefore be impossible for anyone to argue that the conviction was connected to information allegedly shared by the late governor shortly before his passing.

He also referenced family inheritance records, maintaining that the prisoner’s name does not appear among beneficiaries listed in Nderitu Gachagua’s estate documents.

This, he argued, provides further evidence that the man is not related to the family despite the allegations circulating in public discussions.

The former deputy president accused unnamed individuals of exploiting the matter for political purposes at a time when competition ahead of the 2027 General Election is beginning to intensify.

He suggested that after failing to uncover evidence linking him to corruption, his political opponents shifted focus toward creating personal controversies aimed at weakening his influence, particularly within the Mt Kenya region where he continues to command significant support.

The issue has attracted attention because of ongoing legal proceedings involving the inmate and claims that have recently surfaced in court filings and public debate.

However, Gachagua maintained that the entire narrative was built on falsehoods and intended solely to damage his standing among supporters.

He further alleged that promises may have been made to the prisoner in exchange for cooperating with those behind the alleged plot. While providing no documentary evidence during his remarks, Gachagua claimed the inmate had been given assurances that his legal troubles could be addressed if he agreed to participate in the scheme.

Political observers note that the latest allegations add another chapter to the increasingly confrontational relationship between Gachagua and sections of the current administration following his dramatic fallout with former allies in government.
