Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, May 28, 2026, DCP Acting Secretary General and Nyandarua Senator John Methu accused the government of negligence, incompetence and failure to protect students despite repeated school fire tragedies witnessed across the country over the years.
The emotional address came as the country continued mourning the learners who lost their lives after a devastating overnight fire at the Nakuru-based institution. WATCH FULL VIDEO HERE.
Methu said Kenya has repeatedly witnessed fatal school disasters without serious reforms being implemented to guarantee the safety of learners in boarding schools.
“We have lost too many students for a long time, from St Kizito in the 1990s to Janguri Boys, Hillside International Academy and many other schools. Yet every time, leaders only speak after people have died,” Methu said.
The senator sharply criticised Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of failing to respond urgently after allegedly receiving information about the fire during the night.
