Gachagua Dares Ruto to Threaten Uhuru Kenyatta

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to defend retired President Uhuru Kenyatta from what he claims are sustained political attacks orchestrated by President William Ruto and members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking during a public address, Gachagua alleged that Kenyatta was being targeted for exercising his constitutional right to engage in politics and interact with other leaders.

He accused UDA leaders of being sent to intimidate the former president and pressure him into political silence.

“I have seen leaders from Western Kenya, the Governor, the Deputy Governor, Aden Duale and others. They have been sent by William Ruto to abuse President Uhuru Kenyatta, intimidate him, and sell him fear that he should not have a political mind,” Gachagua said.

“He should not interact with other leaders, and if he does, they threaten to take away his retirement benefits and allowances.”

Gachagua emphasized that Kenyatta, whom he described as a respected statesman, is entitled to dignity and liberty after leaving office.

He dismissed suggestions that the withdrawal of retirement benefits could influence the former president’s political choices.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta is not a poor man. He has worked hard and has resources. He cannot be told to shut up for allowances,” he stated.

The former deputy president also framed the alleged attacks as a reaction to growing political pressure facing President Ruto, particularly in the Mount Kenya region.

“President Ruto is in shock, confused, and panicked. The one-term sentiment is real because he became President courtesy of votes from the Mount Kenya region. Those who voted for him and for Raila are all against him,” Gachagua added.

He further emphasized the importance of regional unity, asserting that he, Kenyatta, and other leaders including Martha Karua, Justin Muturi, and Mithuka Linturi, are committed to keeping Mount Kenya politically united.

Gachagua argued that the bloc’s cohesion will be critical in shaping national leadership and urged Ruto to stop using junior leaders to attack Kenyatta.

Gachagua also defended Kenyatta’s legacy, noting that he handed over a stable country and should not be blamed for current administration challenges.

The former deputy president reaffirmed his commitment to standing up for Kenyatta whenever necessary, signaling a potential political confrontation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
