What Was Seen at Bobi Wine's Home as Security Tightens Measures Amid House Arrest

Tensions escalated in Magere as security operatives tightened measures around the home of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

The move comes amid reports that the opposition leader is under house arrest ahead of Uganda’s ongoing elections.

NTV reported an increased presence of police and military personnel around Bobi Wine’s residence, with roadblocks and checkpoints restricting access to the area.

Social media users also shared videos claiming that a drone was spotted hovering above the premises, fueling concerns about surveillance and intimidation.

Supporters of Bobi Wine expressed outrage over the heightened security, describing the measures as a direct attempt to suppress political activity and limit his movement.

Some residents said they were prevented from delivering supplies to the candidate’s home, further raising fears about restrictions on his freedom and access.

Political analysts argue that the house arrest and visible show of force could be a strategy to weaken opposition morale ahead of the vote, especially given Bobi Wine’s strong support among young and urban voters.

They warn that such measures risk escalating tensions in an already charged electoral environment.

Bobi Wine has yet to make a public statement since the house arrest was reportedly enforced.

His party, NUP, condemned the actions, calling them a violation of constitutional rights and an attempt to intimidate both the candidate and his supporters.

The Electoral Commission has not commented on the situation, and it remains unclear how long the house arrest will last.

As Uganda heads into one of its most contested electoral seasons, the situation at Bobi Wine’s home highlights the growing tensions between security forces and opposition parties, raising concerns about the fairness and transparency of the ongoing election process
