Kenya Medical Council Cracks Down On illegal Dental and Medical Facilities After Patient Harm Cases

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council has responded to reports of a dental procedure that went wrong at an unregistered facility called Life Clinic in Kawangware, Nairobi. The procedure resulted in serious complications for a patient who needed urgent care.

Council officers, working with security agencies, inspected the facility. The proprietor was not present during the visit. The affected patient was traced, evacuated, and referred to Kenyatta National Hospital. As of January 9, 2026, the patient was undergoing corrective treatment and receiving proper care.

Investigations revealed that the person running Life Clinic also managed other unlicensed medical facilities. One such facility, Jamii Medical Centre, was found to have a 22-year-old male patient in an unauthorised inpatient area without proper medical care. The patient was immediately referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.

Following these inspections, Life Clinic and Jamii Medical Centre were closed. The authorities now have the relevant information and are seeking the individuals responsible. The Council confirmed that investigations into these illegal operations are ongoing.

During the same enforcement activities, other facilities were also closed. Wema Maternity and Nursing Home and St Annes Mission Medical were shut down for failing to meet required medical standards and lacking adequate personnel. These closures were unrelated to the earlier facilities but part of broader compliance inspections.

The Council has urged the public to report any unlicensed medical practitioners, illegal clinics, or repeated cases of poor patient outcomes. Reporting such cases helps protect the public and ensures health care regulations are followed.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council praised the media and members of the public for providing information that supports regulatory enforcement. The Council emphasized that public vigilance is key in maintaining safe health care services across the country.

Authorities continue to monitor unregistered facilities closely. Their aim is to prevent harm to patients and ensure that all medical and dental facilities operate under proper regulations. Compliance inspections are set to continue nationwide.
