Maureen Kori, an aspiring MCA seeking the Gathigiriri Ward seat in Kirinyaga County on the DCP ticket in 2027, was among the thousands of youths present when President Ruto presided over the launch of the disbursement of KSh173.2 million in NYOTA business start-up capital at the Kabiru-ini ASK Grounds in Nyeri County.
The NYOTA funds were distributed to close to seven thousand young entrepreneurs drawn from Nyeri, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Kirinyaga counties.
The event attracted a large turnout, with beneficiaries and Mt Kenya leaders allied to President Ruto gathering to witness the rollout of the youth-focused empowerment programme.
Maureen stood out after appearing frequently in photos shared on social media by President Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki following the event.
Her presence at the Nyeri event drew attention online largely because of her recent political activities alongside Gachagua and his allies.
Only days earlier, Maureen had been among those who accompanied Gachagua during his visit to Kagio town in Kirinyaga County.
She was even among those who were given opportunity to speak when Gachagua was in Mwea last week.
As images of her attendance at the Nyeri event circulated widely, Maureen took to social media to explain her decision.
In one post, she stated that she was unemployed and needed financial support. In another, the youthful female aspirant noted that more than 6,000 youths were in attendance and questioned why she was the only one who was being singled out.
Maureen hails from Gathigiriri in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, and has been active in grassroots political mobilization linked to the DCP. Her appearance at a government function has, however, elicited mixed reactions.
