Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has urged citizens, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, to move away from constant criticism of the government, describing it as ineffective leadership.
The remarks emerge amid ongoing economic challenges, including food security concerns and regional political dynamics, highlighting Kagwe's alignment with President William Ruto's administration.
On Sunday, January 11, 2026, during a church service at ACK St Paul’s Church in Kariki, Othaya Constituency, Nyeri County, CS Kagwe addressed a gathering that included high-profile figures such as Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, and several local MPs and senators.
Speaking on the need for stability and long-term vision in the Mt. Kenya region, Kagwe emphasized the dangers of "divisive politics" and emotional reactions that lead to frequent criticism of leaders. He stated:
“We are not a people who jump with emotions every time and spend all our energy criticising. That is not leadership.”
Kagwe argued that continuously "tearing down" leaders weakens the region and prevents the accumulation of experience, influence, and networks that benefit communities.
He contrasted this approach with other parts of Kenya that have achieved growth by investing in leaders over time, likening it to nurturing crops rather than uprooting them every few years.
“Leadership is grown, not rented for one term. You cannot uproot your crops every five years and expect a harvest,” he remarked.
This message promotes continuity, strategic thinking, and building lasting systems to ensure prosperity for Mt. Kenya and the nation as a whole.
