Change of Tact, as Gov Mutahi Kahiga Declares Full Support to President Ruto Towards 2027 Polls

Nyeri County Governor Honourable Mutahi Kahiga, he has come out boldly to declare his support to one President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General elections.

Earlier today President William Ruto alongside his team attended a Church Service in Othaya, Nyeri county. Mutahi Kahiga was the host.

The governor, who has historically been viewed as a close ally of Gachagua, emphasized his continued membership in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the party that propelled President Ruto to power.

"William Ruto is my president, and I voted for him. I don't know why people are getting confused. There is no other president," Kahiga stated, drawing cheers from the congregation.

He further clarified: "The last time I checked, I am still a full paid-up member of UDA, and that is a fact." Kahiga used a relatable metaphor to drive home his point on political consistency:

"I don't want to be like WiFi that connects everywhere. We must have a plan... Just like a WiFi device, we must connect to one strong network. Do not keep switching signals."

This declaration comes amid ongoing political realignments in the Mt. Kenya region, following Gachagua's impeachment in 2024 and his subsequent formation of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Kahiga had previously been associated with Gachagua, including hosting him at events in Nyeri just days earlier. However, his presence alongside President Ruto during the church service and his explicit rejection of defection rumors marks a notable change of tact.

Kahiga urged leaders and residents to prioritize development and governance over early political mobilization.

"Let us differentiate time and seasons. It's time to work. Politics will come, and we will do politics. For now, let us support the president," he said, stressing the importance of unity for the benefit of Nyeri residents and Kenyans at large.
