Ruto Calls for Unity and Hard Work as Kenya Marks 62 Years of Independence

Kenya celebrated its 62nd Jamhuri Day with a strong message from President William Ruto, who urged citizens to stay united, work hard, and support the country’s long-term development goals.

Speaking at a fully packed Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, the President said this year’s theme, “Building a Skilled, Sustainable and Prosperous Nation,” reflects the direction Kenya must take to secure a better future for all.

The President explained that Jamhuri Day is not only a moment to look back at how far the nation has come, but also a reminder that every generation must do its part to protect Kenya’s freedom.

He added that independence did not come easily, and the sacrifices made by past leaders should inspire today’s citizens to contribute to national growth.

Ruto told Kenyans that true freedom goes beyond lowering foreign influence and colonial rule.

According to him, independence also means taking charge of the country’s development, strengthening peace, and making sure that every community feels included.

He emphasized that Kenya can only grow when people work together, respect one another, and use available opportunities responsibly.

The President also highlighted the importance of young people in shaping the country’s future.

He said Kenya’s youth are full of talent and energy, and if properly guided, they can lead the nation into a more prosperous era.

Ruto encouraged young people to take advantage of training programs, digital skills initiatives, and government support to create jobs and build careers.

He noted that today’s world rewards knowledge, innovation, and creativity, and Kenya must prepare its youth to compete globally.

Another key part of Ruto’s message was the need for Kenyans to depend less on foreign goods and services.

He said the government is investing heavily in local industries, farming, and technology so that Kenya can produce more of what it needs at home.

According to the President, increasing local production will protect jobs, strengthen the economy, and reduce unnecessary spending on imports.

He also called on Kenyans to support the ongoing fight against corruption and misuse of public resources.

Ruto urged citizens to report wrongdoing wherever they see it and promised that his government will continue taking firm action against those who steal from the public.

He noted that corruption slows down development and makes life harder for honest citizens.

During the celebrations, the President took time to appreciate the partnership between the national and county governments.

He said cooperation between the two levels ensures better service delivery, better roads, improved healthcare, and stable development across all counties.

Ruto added that unity within leadership helps the country avoid unnecessary political tension and concentrate on national progress.

The Head of State also expressed gratitude to Kenya’s international friends who continue to support development projects, security cooperation, and investment opportunities.

However, he emphasized that even with these friendships, Kenya’s long-term strength will depend on its own people, resources, and institutions.

He reminded citizens that every country grows when its people believe in themselves.

As the event came to a close, Ruto urged Kenyans to keep the spirit of Jamhuri alive in their daily lives.

He said patriotism is not only shown during national celebrations but also through kindness, honesty, hard work, and taking care of the environment.

He encouraged families, schools, and community leaders to teach young children the value of peace, respect, and responsibility.

This year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations were attended by thousands of citizens, government officials, diplomats, cultural groups, and performers.

The ceremony featured military displays, traditional dances, creative performances, and special recognition of outstanding Kenyans who have made a difference in society.

The President ended his speech by expressing confidence that Kenya’s best years are ahead. He said that if the country remains united and focused on development, every citizen will enjoy the fruits of independence.

Ruto encouraged Kenyans to keep dreaming, keep building, and keep believing in the promise of the nation.
