Senate Drama as Speaker Kingi Kicks Out Senator Khalwale Over Claims on Activists’ Release

The Senate session on Tuesday erupted into dramatic scenes after Speaker Amason Kingi ordered Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale out of the chambers.

The directive followed heated exchanges sparked by Khalwale’s remarks suggesting that former President Uhuru Kenyatta not President William Ruto was the one who intervened to secure the release of two Kenyan activists allegedly abducted in Uganda.

The tension began when Senator Khalwale rose to question the government’s official account of how the activists were freed.

According to him, reliable sources indicated that former President Uhuru played a central role in negotiating their return.

His comments immediately triggered uproar from senators allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration, who accused him of misleading the House and undermining the sitting President.

Speaker Kingi repeatedly asked Khalwale to withdraw his remarks, stating that they were unsubstantiated and risked turning the session into a political battleground.

However, Khalwale stood his ground and refused to retract, insisting he was speaking the truth Kenyans deserve to know.

With the standoff escalating, Kingi ruled that Khalwale was out of order and directed him to leave the chamber.

The Senator walked out reluctantly, shaking his head as some lawmakers applauded the Speaker’s firmness.

The incident has stirred fresh debate in political circles, with some calling for transparency on the activists’ release, while others argue that Khalwale’s claims were reckless and intended to embarrass the government.

Despite the controversy, the Senate continued with its scheduled business, though the tension from the dramatic ejection lingered long after Khalwale had left.
