ODM Told to be Careful With Ruto, Warned What he Could Soon do to CS's Given to Him by Raila

Siaya Governor James Orengo has urged the ODM party to be careful with Ruto, specifically regarding it's working agreement with him.

Orengo, a lawyer by profession, has stressed the need for ODM to sign a binding pact with Ruto, to reduce chances of him turning against the outfit.

According to the leader, in the absence of this, Ruto could soon even sack the ministers he appointed to his cabinet on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's proposal.

“ODM leaders must be cautious in their dealings with President Ruto. Even those enjoying government perks should ensure there are solid legal grounds protecting their positions,” he is quoted by the People Daily.

Orengo stated that such occurrences are normal in the Kenyan political landscape, pointing out that Raila's side has found itself in such positions in the past.

He recalled incidents after the 2002 election, where Raila allies were ejected from then President Mwai Kibaki's.government, resulting in the formation of the ODM party.

“Coalitions without proper agreements are risky. Some critics within ODM are defending the government to safeguard personal gains rather than principles," he Siaya county boss added.

He called for an arrangement similar to what was seen when Raila served alongside Kibaki in the Grand Coalition Government, where there was a legal agreement preventing a president from dismissing ministers without consulting a co-principal.

Orengo, however, stated that he has nothing against ODM working with the government. He is among top ODM members who have been publicly against ODM supporting Ruto's 2027 reelection bid.
