Kisii Family Exhumes Body After Daughter They Buried Months Ago Turns Up Alive

A family in Gotinyango, Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County is struggling to come to terms with a shocking twist of events after discovering that the woman they buried seven months ago was not their daughter, Sarah, as they had believed.

The emotional roller coaster began when Sarah went missing following a serious road accident that left several victims injured.

For two months, her family searched desperately for answers. During their search, a friend informed them about an unidentified woman’s body at the Keroka morgue that resembled their missing daughter.

Still grieving and confused, the family visited the morgue. The accident had left the woman’s face and body severely deformed. Overwhelmed by fear and pain, the family concluded that the body belonged to Sarah.

They proceeded with funeral arrangements and buried the woman on their land, believing they had laid their daughter to rest.

Two months after the burial, the unimaginable happened. Sarah regained consciousness in hospital and managed to contact home using a friend’s phone.

The family was thrown into disbelief—how could she be alive when they had already buried someone they believed was her?

Torn between shock and relief, they rushed to see her. Once it was confirmed that Sarah was indeed alive and recovering, the family realized they had mistakenly buried a stranger.

This discovery opened a painful new chapter, forcing them to seek legal permission to exhume the wrongly buried woman.

A court order issued by the Keroka Law Courts allowed the family to retrieve the body. Government officials, a pathologist, and representatives from Keroka supervised the entire process to ensure the exhumation followed the law.

The casket was recovered intact and transported to Gucha Mortuary for preservation. This marks the beginning of efforts to identify the woman who was mistakenly buried.

Authorities will now work to trace her real family and give them the closure they deserve.

For the Kisii family, the exhumation closed one painful misunderstanding but opened another emotional burden.

They must now wait for officials to uncover the identity of the woman they unknowingly buried.

Meanwhile, they continue to support Sarah as she recovers from her accident.
