Many people have been wondering whether the children should remain with their biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, or with Betty’s widower, Hiram “Tash” Gitau. After days of speculation, Kanyari has finally spoken openly about the situation, and his message points to a calm and respectful agreement.
Speaking during a church service in Nairobi on Sunday, 23 November 2025, Kanyari explained that he has chosen to let the children stay with Tash for now.
He said the decision was not forced, nor was it a result of conflict. Instead, it was made out of understanding and empathy.
According to Kanyari, Tash is still going through a difficult period after losing Betty. He noted that being around the children gives Tash emotional comfort and helps him cope with the heavy grief he is carrying. Kanyari made it clear he did not want to create tension or add to the pain already surrounding the family.
He also revealed that he and Tash have had honest conversations about the children since Betty’s passing. During the funeral preparations, Tash would often ask about the children’s next steps. Each time, Kanyari assured him that the children could stay with him.
The main focus at the time, he said, was to give Betty a respectful and peaceful farewell, not to start arguments over parenting.
Online, many Kenyans reacted positively to the pastor’s remarks. Social media users praised both men for showing maturity during such an emotional moment.
Some highlighted how Tash has been quietly strong throughout the tragedy, while others appreciated Kanyari’s calm and thoughtful approach. Many commenters encouraged the two to continue cooperating for the sake of the children’s well-being.
Kanyari also used his speech to address people who questioned his commitment as a father. He shared old messages exchanged between him and Betty, showing discussions about school fees, uniforms, dental braces, and other daily responsibilities. He said the conversations prove he has always been involved in his children’s lives.
He also mentioned several messages from their daughter, Sky, who thanked him for supporting her education and referred to him as “the best” father. In one chat from October 2023, she told him she had closed school for midterm and was ready to visit him.
According to Kanyari, these messages show that he has remained present and supportive long before any public debate began.
Even though the children will be living with Tash for now, Kanyari emphasized that he will continue playing an active role in their lives.
He said he does not want distance between him and his children and that their relationship will remain strong. His message focused on peace, unity, and keeping the children at the centre of every decision.
