Argument Over Food Turns Deadly as 63-Year-Old Migori Businessman Allegedly Kills His Son

A quiet village in South Sakwa, Awendo sub-county, is in shock after a 63-year-old man allegedly killed his son following a heated argument about food.

According to police reports, the incident happened on the night of Tuesday, August 26. The 28-year-old son had gone to his father’s house demanding food.

Witnesses said the young man’s tone was aggressive, which sparked a quarrel between him and his father.

What started as a simple demand quickly escalated. Awendo sub-county police commander Julius Kemboi explained that the father is suspected of attacking his son with a jembe, hitting him on the head.

The injuries were severe, and the young man died about an hour later. Police officers were alerted by members of the public.

“When we arrived, we found the young man lying in a pool of blood. He had already succumbed to the head injuries,” Kemboi said.

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident.

APolice have since launched a manhunt and are calling on members of the public to share any information that could help in his arrest.

Locals said the deceased had a troubled relationship with his family.

Reports indicated that relatives had been pressuring him to get married and start his own household, which often led to disagreements.

The tension is believed to have contributed to the heated exchanges on the night of the tragedy.

The police commander urged families in Migori County to embrace peaceful ways of resolving conflicts.

“Domestic violence cases are increasing, and sadly, many end in unnecessary deaths. We encourage families to talk, seek mediation, or even involve authorities when disputes arise, instead of turning to violence,” Kemboi advised.

The body of the deceased was taken to Rosewood Mortuary in Awendo town, awaiting a postmortem.

Meanwhile, villagers remain shocked by the tragedy, describing. This is not the first time Migori has been hit by such incidents.

In recent months, several families in the county have reported fatal clashes linked to domestic quarrels, leaving leaders and security officers worried about the rising trend.
